Brass Tactile Tiles – 300 × 300 mm Integrated Studs and Strips

Overview

Brass tactile tiles combine the two things premium projects ask for: a warm metallic finish and rapid, perfectly aligned installation. Each tile is assembled in Mumbai from brass sheet and machined brass studs or bars, so the whole warning field or guiding path arrives as finished 300 × 300 mm units ready to screw down.

The stud tile uses the same Ø35 mm, 4.5 mm dome as our brass tactile studs; the bar tile uses the same profile as our brass tactile strips, so loose components can be used around columns and curves alongside the tiles.

Typical uses

Brass tiles are chosen for the top and bottom of grand staircases, lift lobbies and escalator landings in hotels, for platform edges in restored heritage stations, and for museum and gallery entrances. They are rarely the right choice for exterior pavements, where stainless steel tactile tiles are recommended.

How a brass tile is built

A brass tactile tile is assembled rather than pressed: a 300 × 300 mm brass plate carries 36 machined brass studs or 4 machined brass bars fixed to it at exactly 50 mm or 75 mm centres. That means the studs on a tile are identical to our loose brass studs, and a field can be finished around a column with loose studs without any visible change. Four countersunk corner holes take the fixing screws.

Where brass tiles belong

Stud tile or bar tile

The stud tile is a warning field for the top and bottom of stairs, escalator landings and lift lobbies. The bar tile is a guiding path for straight runs across a lobby; where the route turns, switch to loose brass strips. Both use the same plate and finish.

How many tiles do you need?

A 600 mm-deep field is two rows: 6.7 tiles per running metre. A 3 m grand staircase needs 20 tiles at the top and 20 at the bottom. A 300 mm guiding path uses 3.3 bar tiles per metre. Half tiles (300 × 150 mm) are made to order for finishing at walls.

What affects the price

1. Material: brass plate and studs cost more than stainless steel; expect a premium over SS tiles.
2. Stud type: concentric ring is standard; carborundum inserts add an operation.
3. Finish: natural polish standard; lacquer optional.
4. Plate thickness, quantity and destination. Tiles are heavier than loose studs, so sea freight suits large export orders.

Mistakes we see with brass tiles

• Tiles laid before the floor is finished. Install after final grinding and polishing, then mask until handover.
• Gaps between tiles. Butt tightly so the stud grid continues.
• Screws not countersunk. A proud screw is a trip point.
• Acid washing after installation. Mask the tiles during any acid clean of stone.
• Brass tiles outdoors. Use stainless steel or PVD gold.
