Most accessibility work in India and abroad is retrofit: adding compliant tactile surfaces to stations, hospitals, malls, offices and schools that were built before current guidelines. These buildings are open, their floors are finished, and their owners want minimal disruption. That is exactly the situation self-adhesive tactile studs were developed for.
Drilling thousands of holes in a live building means night shifts, dust extraction, hoarding, and the risk of cracking expensive stone or large-format tiles. Underfloor heating and services add further risk. The building owner often delays the work for years because of the disruption.
Retrofit projects often have a fixed palette. MetalX applies tape to stainless steel (satin, mirror or PVD colour), brass, anodised aluminium and PU in six colours, so the studs can match or contrast with the floor as the accessibility standard requires.
Exterior pavements, dusty or unsealed concrete, carpet and areas with standing water need stem or screw-fix studs. In mixed sites, use both: adhesive indoors, epoxy-set outdoors, with the same stud profile throughout.

A two-person crew installs 400–600 studs per hour on prepared tile, so a typical staircase set (top and bottom, 600 mm deep) is done in under an hour.
No. There is no drilling, and the studs can be removed with heat and a residue cleaner leaving the floor unmarked.
They tolerate minor unevenness because each stud base is only 35 mm across. Avoid placing a stud over a wide or recessed grout joint.
Brass or PVD gold stainless steel are most often chosen for heritage interiors; both are available with 3M tape.
